Apple’s Vision Pro headset will be in stores soon, and that means your favorite apps will have new features to go with mixed reality.
Well, Zoom may not be your favorite app, but you use it from time to time. For those who do, Zoom has announced a bundle of interesting new games to play in the Vision Pro version of the popular video calling app.
From 3D avatars to spatial computing, Zoom is making the most of what Vision Pro can do when the device gets into people’s hands.
5 Cool New Zoom Features for Apple Vision Pro
Your video calls are about to get even more ridiculous if nothing else. This is how.
A 3D Representation of Meeting Participants
Apple has talked a lot about “Personas,” which are 3D avatars meant to more or less realistically represent another person wearing the Vision Pro, and Zoom is simply embracing this feature.
This means that anyone in the meeting wearing Vision Pro will be represented as a moving 3D model instead of a static video screen. Does this make calls more productive or immersive? It’s hard to say. But it’s an interesting use of technology.
Application scaling
Another great thing you can do with Zoom in Vision Pro is to scale the app to the perfect size for your space.
Zoom’s blog post says this is meant to make you “feel like [you’re] in the same room” with your coworkers. We’ll see if it works that way.
Facial and hand movements
One interesting aspect of the 3D characters we discussed above is that they will feature facial and hand movements for added immersion.
At least, this is the ideal version of this feature. Without seeing it in action, we cannot say whether it is working as intended. It can easily be scary or strange.
Share 3D objects
One cool feature that Zoom said was coming later this spring (so it won’t be available at launch) is 3D object sharing.
This is self-explanatory. If you have a 3D model you want to share with your Zoom colleagues, you can do so. They will look at it in your space to get an idea of its size, shape, and other dimensions.
This can be productive or just fun.
Pin Participants
Finally, another feature Zoom is promising later this spring is the ability to “pin” people’s feeds anywhere in your physical space.
